Late bloomer i guess
I didn't give this game much attention when it came out, admittedly i got side tracked by more popular titles. Those titles would only have about a 6 month lifespan for me, due to lack of depth. Played other singleplayer/openworld games to amuse myself but, love shooters though. Something about playing army man reminds me of being a kid, i guess. The thrill of tactical warfare without getting shot for real.
Either way figured I'd give Dust another shot. Logged in to find out passive sp has been accumulating for nearly 2 years. Loaded up a game and was amazed at how big the skill tree was and all the various weapons and combination of modules and sp and how much of a wide variety alterations you could do to mold your character into whatever kind of soldier you wanted.
Went to the school of youtube to gather info on this pretty f'in neat game I forgot about and seemingly no one else plays. (just one lifesize cardboard cutout of a damn dropsuit standing in gamestop would do wonders for a little publicity). Anyhow, I got re-reminded that this game was linked to the EVE world. I remember watching EVE videos a couple years ago, but crappy PC wasn't up to task of playing it. Looks like an amazing game though. Any game where you can develop the same character for 10+ yrs has my interest.
Ended up overwhelmed with the 10+ yrs of EVE history (cant find the beginning or end). Eventually becoming invested in learning as much as I can about this amazing world.
The sheer amount of content and being new to it all keeps the desire to learn fresh. I guess if it was as superficial and easy to beat or hit max level I probably would have gotten bored and moved on to a different game.
This world feels alive, there is so much still to learn and experience. EVE side has "breaking news" in EVE world. All races of characters have decade long backstories with new ones being created everyday. Its literally a living alternate reality.
Its like StarWars fans or Star Trek fans, that Sci-fi world have been around so long you could spend the rest of your life reading and researching but never end up knowing all there is to know. For someone who likes depth there is so much of it here you'll never get bored.
I just recently downloaded "The book of EVE" from the EVE wiki. Over 1000 pages of EVE lore and history. I'll be reading that for a while. The more I dig the more I find and the more I become overwhelmed.
Then we get to, "dammit now I've fallen in love with this game". Its like all the vets from all shooters stumbled across this game and stayed as well for all the same reasons I did. We must all really be nerds. Anyone likes shooters but the depth and variety that this game offers really appeals to the "thinking/nerd/rpg" gamer rather than the potty mouthed run and gun players you find elsewhere. Most people I've met playing this game are, more mature, professional. We want the complexities this game offers. Its so different from any other shooter out there.
Only bad thing is, I'm ready to move on to PS4/PC. I'll call this game a late bloomer for the fact just as I'm ready to migrate to better platforms it gets to the point where "man they really got something here" Talk about the best guys finish last".
This game has new life in my eyes. I really think it would be a smart move to move Dust to ps4, if only to continue improvements from where we are on a system that can handle it better. Obviously with the work being done it seems like CCP has a vision for this game. Their problem is they are putting a ton of effort into a system that most people won't be playing too much longer. Don't stop though. I've looked and there isn't really any other game out that offers what this game does.
So to the TL;DR people, I could keep going but I can no longer see the top of this wall of text. Bottom line is The EVE world is captivating. It is so content rich that I haven't gotten bored yet and no other game has caught my interest enough to pull me away. Even if something does, I'll never forget the time I've spent in New Eden. This community is a small niche, but I feel somewhat connected here. More so than any other forum or game. I'll remember familiar names, certain unforgettable games, certain fanfiction from the forum section below. Oddly enough, this game is alive in some way. There will always be a place in my heart and memories for Dust and New Eden. Its like when certain movies, or shows or songs hit you a certain way. New Eden has touched me, And I liked it. |
